The Hebrew Home at Riverdale is pleased to announce its latest exhibition, Risaburo Kimura: Great Cities of the World, a portfolio of prints drawn from the Hebrew Home’s permanent collection. The exhibition will open on August 1 and will be on view in the Elma and Milton A. Gilbert at The Hebrew Home at Riverdale located at 5901 Palisade Avenue in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx through October 2, 2011. The exhibition is free and open to the public and may be visited daily, 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The exhibition features eight lithographs from the portfolio, Great Cities of the World, 1974, a series of abstract works inspired by Amsterdam, London, Moscow, New York, Peking, Sydney, Tokyo and Venice. They reveal the diverse colors, forms and moods typical of Kimura’s style as well as his idiosyncratic notion of the essential nature of each of the cities represented.

Kimura was born in 1924 in Yokosuka City, Japan, and moved to New York City in 1964. He attended university in Tokyo. His work has been featured in both solo and group exhibitions at such venues as the Brooklyn Museum, MoMA, the Guggenheim Museum, and the National Museum of Modern Art (Kyoto, Japan).
