4rta Bienal de Arte Latinoamericano del Bronx/4th Bronx Latin American Art Biennial – Difusion Cultural/Cultural Diffusion celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of exhibitions to be held in various locations in the Bronx. Inspired by the notion of cultural space and its importance to social dynamics, Alexis Mendoza, Yarisa Colón, Josué Guarionex, Luis Stephenberg and Miguel Lescano, the Biennial’s curators, have brought together 50 local and international artists to explore the overall theme of “Cultural Diffusion.”

The works on view in the Gilbert Pavilion Gallery have been assembled under the banner of “Realistic Illusion.” They display conceptual depth, thoughtful symbolism and personal and social investment. The title, “Realistic Illusion,” suggests how these artists’ figurative, realist or abstract works reveal a technical proficiency, but transcend the vapidity that sometimes attends academic art. Participating artists include: Pedro Abreu, Laura Alvarez, Petronio Bendito, Hector Canonge, Carlos Chavez, Ismael Checo, Amaru Chiza, Hector Anchundia, Marita Ibañez, Miguel Lescano, Jorge Mendoza, Amy Ponce, Rubén Rivera and Rafael Rodríguez.
